Understanding Sex & Porn Addiction

A recognised health condition — not a moral failing

What is commonly called "sex addiction" or "porn addiction" is clinically known as Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder — recognised by the World Health Organization in 2019. It is defined by a persistent loss of control over sexual urges and behaviour that continues despite real distress, and harm to relationships, work or wellbeing.

Few conditions carry more shame or silence, which is exactly why so few people seek help. At ZorbaCare, this is treated as a health matter, never a character flaw — and it begins with one confidential, judgement-free conversation, protected by complete privacy.

Compulsive sexual behaviour rarely stands alone. It is closely tied to anxiety, depression, trauma and shame, so our dual diagnosis approach treats the behaviour and the mental health beneath it together.

Recognising The Signs

When it stops being a choice

This is defined not by how often, but by the loss of control and the distress it causes. Sexual behaviour that fits a person's own values is not a disorder. If several of these signs cause you genuine distress, confidential support can help.

Sexual urges or behaviour that feel impossible to control
Repeated failed attempts to cut back or stop
Behaviour continuing despite real distress or consequences
Increasing time consumed, crowding out other life
Using the behaviour to escape stress, loneliness or low mood
Neglecting relationships, work or responsibilities
Deep shame, secrecy or guilt around the behaviour
Continuing even when it no longer brings satisfaction
You do not need to reach a crisis before you deserve help. Reaching out early, in complete confidence, means less damage to relationships and wellbeing — and a stronger recovery.

Our Philosophy Of Care

How we help — with clinical care and discretion

Recovery from compulsive sexual behaviour is not about willpower or shame. It is a structured psychological process — therapy, urge management and relapse prevention — that works far better with the right clinical team than any attempt to stop alone.

What we do

Whole-person treatment

Cognitive behavioural therapy, urge-management skills, trauma-informed care, couples support where wanted, and relapse prevention — combined into one personalised, confidential recovery plan.

How we do it

Evidence, not judgement

Every intervention is grounded in psychiatry, clinical psychology and sexual-health expertise, delivered in a calm, private residential setting with a 3:1 staff ratio.

Why it works

Dignity drives recovery

People recover when they feel safe and respected, not judged. We treat every client with dignity — because compassion, not shame, is what makes this recovery last.

Your Recovery Journey

Structured. Monitored. Outcome-driven.

Every recovery is different, but the structure behind it is dependable. Here is what the journey with us looks like, stage by stage.

Week 1

Assessment & stabilisation

A confidential clinical and psychological assessment of the pattern, triggers, mental health and any underlying trauma — in a completely private, non-judgemental setting.

Week 2

Personalised planning

Based on the initial findings, we define individual goals, the right therapy approach and clear care protocols for the person — not a generic pathway.

Week 2–12

Intensive therapy & change

The core phase: psychotherapy, psychiatric care, group work, family sessions and holistic practices that address the roots of dependence, not just the symptoms.

Week 12+

Aftercare & continuity

The first year is the most vulnerable. Ongoing check-ins, relapse monitoring and guided reintegration keep recovery on track long after leaving our doors.

Life In Recovery

A day at ZorbaCare

Recovery is rebuilt in the rhythm of a calm, structured day — steady purpose in place of compulsion and shame. Movement in the morning, therapy through the day, rest and reflection by night.

Morning

Wake, yoga & breathwork

The day opens gently — yoga, breathwork and meditation to calm the urges and restlessness that drive compulsive behaviour.

Mid-morning

Nourishing breakfast & check-in

A wholesome meal followed by a brief clinical check-in, so every day starts with care and accountability.

Late morning

Individual therapy

One-to-one CBT sessions to identify triggers, manage urges and address the thoughts and emotions beneath the behaviour.

Afternoon

Group work & skill-building

Group therapy, psychoeducation and relapse-prevention sessions that rebuild self-respect, control and healthy connection.

Evening

Recreation & reflection

Time outdoors, journaling, or quiet recreation — space to process the day and rest without pressure.

Night

Restful, structured close

A settled evening routine and early night, because restored sleep is one of the foundations of recovery.

How We Treat

Evidence-based, confidential therapies

Compulsive sexual behaviour responds best to talking therapies. We use the approaches with the strongest evidence — CBT at the core — alongside trauma-informed and relationship care, all delivered in complete confidence.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

The leading treatment for compulsive sexual behaviour. CBT builds psychoeducation, urge-management skills and healthier responses to the triggers that drive the behaviour.

Urge management & mindfulness

Mindfulness-based techniques to notice urges without acting on them — increasing awareness of thoughts and emotions, and creating space to choose differently.

Trauma-informed therapy

Compulsive behaviour is often rooted in past trauma, shame or unmet needs. We address those roots with care, so recovery treats the cause, not just the symptom.

Couples & relationship therapy

Where wanted, guided sessions help partners rebuild trust, communication and intimacy — repairing the relationship strain this behaviour so often causes.

Dual diagnosis care

Anxiety, depression and low self-worth frequently accompany this condition. Treating them alongside the behaviour is what makes recovery hold.

Holistic & relapse prevention

Yoga, breathwork and mindfulness to restore balance and sleep, plus a practical plan for the high-risk moments — because staying well is a skill that can be learned.

Our Treatment Programs

A complete, confidential continuum of care

Effective treatment is a sequence — the right care at the right time, always in confidence. We deliver every stage under one roof, from assessment to aftercare, so recovery is never interrupted.

01

Assessment & stabilisation

A full, private clinical and psychological assessment of the pattern, triggers, mental health and any underlying trauma — the foundation for a personalised, confidential recovery plan.

02

Residential rehabilitation

Immersive treatment in a calm, private residential setting, away from everyday triggers. Combines intensive CBT, urge management, trauma-informed and group therapy — the core phase where lasting change is built.

03

Dual diagnosis treatment

Compulsive sexual behaviour is closely tied to anxiety, depression, trauma and shame. Treating only the behaviour leaves the rest to pull recovery back — so we treat both together.

Dual diagnosis
04

Aftercare & relapse prevention

Recovery continues after discharge. Ongoing counselling, relapse-prevention planning and family support carry progress through the vulnerable first year and beyond — the difference between stopping and staying well.

Common Questions

What families ask us most

Clear answers to the questions we hear before treatment begins. Anything else — just reach out.

Is sex or porn addiction really treatable?

Yes. Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder is a WHO-recognised health condition with effective, evidence-based treatment — CBT especially. With structured therapy and aftercare, long-term recovery is the expected outcome for those who stay engaged.

Why can't someone just stop on their own?

Compulsive sexual behaviour involves changes to the brain's reward and impulse-control systems, so willpower alone rarely holds — and shame often makes it worse. Professional therapy addresses the triggers, thoughts and underlying causes together, which is why it works.

What treatments are used for sex and porn addiction?

It is treated primarily with talking therapies — CBT is the leading approach — alongside urge management, trauma-informed care, couples therapy where wanted, dual diagnosis care and relapse prevention, all in complete confidence.

Is admission voluntary?

Yes. ZorbaCare is a voluntary, open residential setting — never a lock-up. Recovery built on consent and trust is far more durable than anything forced.

Will our privacy be protected?

Absolutely — and given how private this condition is, confidentiality is protected with the greatest care, from the very first call through admission and aftercare. Your privacy is safeguarded at every step.

What if my loved one is refusing help?

This is a delicate situation we help families through with great care. Reach out and we'll guide you on how to approach a loved one and what options exist — with compassion, never judgement.
