Mental Health Treatment
Evidence-Based, Practical Talk Therapy

Mental Health Treatment in India.

Mental illness is common, treatable, and nothing to be ashamed of. India’s National Mental Health Survey found that nearly 150 million Indians need mental health care — yet fewer than 30 million receive it, a treatment gap of over 80%.[1] At ZorbaCare, we treat the full range of mental health conditions — from depression and anxiety to bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, schizophrenia and more — with expert, psychiatrist-led care that is confidential, evidence-based and delivered with dignity. We provide mental health treatment in Mumbai, Pune and across India, on both a residential and outpatient basis.

What It Is

Mental illness is treatable — and recovery is real

The single most important thing to know is this: mental health conditions are real medical illnesses, and they respond to treatment. Depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, schizophrenia — these are not weaknesses of character or failures of willpower. They have causes we understand, and treatments that genuinely work. With the right care, most people recover or learn to manage their condition and live full, meaningful lives.

What holds most people back is not the illness itself but the stigma and silence around it — the shame that stops people reaching out, and the myths that treatment does not work or is only for the “severely ill.” The truth is the opposite: the earlier you seek help, the easier recovery usually is. Reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness.

At ZorbaCare, every treatment plan is led by a consultant psychiatrist and built around the individual — combining medication where needed with proven therapies like CBT, psychotherapy and holistic care. We treat the whole person, in Mumbai, Pune and across India.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy — the gold-standard talk therapy for changing the thoughts and behaviours that drive distress.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy — building emotion regulation, distress tolerance and healthier relationships.

Talk therapy that works at the root — exploring the past, emotions and patterns beneath a problem.

Healing through connection — shared support, as effective as individual therapy for many conditions.

Evidence-based mind-body therapy that calms the nervous system and quiets a racing mind.

The Difference Treatment Makes

Living with it vs. getting treatment

Untreated, mental illness quietly narrows a life. With the right care, recovery opens it back up. This is the difference treatment makes.

Left untreated
  • Symptoms quietly worsen and take over daily life
  • Shame and stigma keep you suffering in silence
  • Relationships, work and health slowly suffer
  • It feels hopeless, permanent and impossible to fix
  • Many turn to alcohol or drugs just to cope
Recovery
is possible
With treatment
  • Symptoms ease and daily life becomes manageable
  • You understand your condition and feel in control
  • Relationships, work and health recover
  • Hope returns — and a future feels possible again
  • You build healthy ways to cope and stay well

Common Questions

Common questions about mental health treatment

Honest answers to what people most often ask us. Anything else — just reach out.

What mental health conditions does ZorbaCare treat?

We treat the full range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety and panic disorders, bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD and trauma, schizophrenia, eating disorders, sleep disorders, impulse-control disorders, borderline personality disorder (BPD) and ADHD. We also specialise in dual diagnosis — where a mental health condition and addiction occur together. Every condition is treated with an individualised, psychiatrist-led plan. If you are unsure whether we can help with a particular concern, the best step is a confidential call.

Is mental illness really treatable?

Yes — this is the most important thing to understand. Mental health conditions are real medical illnesses with real, effective treatments. Depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD and even severe conditions like schizophrenia can be treated, and most people recover or learn to manage their condition and live full lives. The earlier treatment begins, the easier recovery usually is. India’s treatment gap is not because treatment does not work — it is because stigma and lack of access stop people from seeking the help that does.

Is treatment confidential? Will people find out?

Complete confidentiality is fundamental to everything we do. What you share with us is private, and we take your dignity and discretion seriously at every step. Our residential estate is calm and private, and treatment is entirely voluntary. Many people worry about stigma — but seeking help for your mental health is a sign of strength, and we make sure it is a safe, respectful and judgement-free experience.

Do you offer residential and outpatient treatment?

Yes. We offer both residential (inpatient) care at our private estate near Mumbai, and outpatient support — including in-person and online sessions. Residential care suits those who need intensive, round-the-clock treatment in a calm, structured setting away from daily stresses; outpatient care suits those who can maintain their routine while receiving regular support. During your assessment, a psychiatrist will recommend the level of care that best fits your condition and circumstances.

How do I help a loved one who won’t seek help?

This is one of the hardest situations families face, and you are not alone in it. Approach them with compassion rather than confrontation, choose a calm private moment, and focus on what you have noticed and your concern for them — not blame. Avoid ultimatums where possible. Sometimes hearing from a professional helps: we regularly guide families on how to have these conversations, and offer confidential advice even before your loved one is ready. Call us to talk it through. If they are in immediate danger, call Tele-MANAS on 14416.

How much does treatment cost, and where are you located?

Cost depends on the level of care — residential or outpatient — and the length of treatment. We are always transparent about costs up front, with no hidden charges. Our residential estate is located in the Sahyadri hills, around 45 minutes from Mumbai, and we serve clients from Pune and across India, with outpatient and online options too. The best first step is a confidential call, where we will explain your options and costs clearly so you can make an informed decision.
